The single most important issue, in this election, is the economy. This is the number one issue on all American’s minds. America’s economy is built on buying and selling; the problem is how can this be fixed?
In my business, the economy and lack of jobs, has greatly hurt all employees and employers. The issue in most families is making ends meet. During the great depression, we saw many of the same events, we see now; we are just not quite there yet. My local economy is based on fishing, construction and tourism. Each year these industries lack more and more. If the tourists don’t visit, we don’t sell homes; then new homes can’t be built. The lack of shopping and dining greatly affects our fishing and retail.
The stimulus packages, given in the past, clearly did not work. Each person going out and spending a few hundred dollars doesn’t benefit many. First and foremost, Americans need to pay their bills; they need to pay down debt and once again feel the American dream. The major difference between today and the great depression is credit. Credit debt was not nearly the issue it is today; Americans fid it very difficult to live without credit, and without the ability to pay down debt. Credit ratings are getting worse.
Next, would be to provide Americans a way to rebuild their lives; this means creating jobs. It is difficult to create jobs within companies who continue to send work overseas, to save money. The issue with this is, would Americans really pay extra for their favorite item, if it meant keeping the jobs in America? This is a huge dilemma; we need the jobs but can’t pay more.
In my opinion, a good start to repair our economy would be very similar to what was done during the great depression. Repairing roads and bridges would provide many jobs. Another idea would be providing a tax break for all major companies who keep their manufacturing jobs in the US. The government should negotiate with credit card companies to lower payments for credit in default and allow payments on lower settlement amounts. This is just a start; we must begin somewhere.
The politics in this country has become unbearable. How do we expect to fix any problems with so many fights? It shouldn’t be about what side you’re on; it should be working together and compromise to solve these major issues. Politicians are so busy bashing someone else, instead of putting this energy into fixing our problems; this deeply saddens me and unfortunately gives me very little hope for the upcoming election. It is to the point of who is trustable? So many have not accomplished what’s promised. American’s find it very hard to choose the candidate who will best serve our country. American’s just want to feel complete again and not have to constantly worry about having enough money to pay their bills. All we can hope for is electing the person who will actually work for our best interests.
